Who Qualifies?
- Any current member of the MNSFA or employee of a member who is actively engaged in floral design as a profession
- Any floriculture student who is currently attending an educational institution/18 years or older
- All 6 finalists must be present to compete at the October 10th MNSFA Convention, held at Hennepin Technical College, Brooklyn Park, MN

Important Information
- You must pre-register for competition. Pre-register before AUGUST 23RD to pay a Early Entry Fee of $25 per person in order to be entered in the competition. THIS INCLUDES YOUR STATE FAIR ADMISION AND PARKING! Pease Note: Any entry made after August 25rd, will pay the entry fee of $35.00 per person.
- Top 6 Finalists must be available for the Surprise Package Final Round on October 10th, 2010. (Including the Awards Ceremony directly following the final design seminar.)
- MNSFA staff and directors are NOT permitted to clarify any of the rules or assist any competitor in any way.
- Entries will be on Display for 2 days—any arrangement that does not hold up will be removed and becomes the property of MNSFA.
- All winners agree to any publicity and/or photographs by MNSFA (may be posted on association website)
- Check in is held from 6am-9am in the horticulture building on Wednesday September 1st.
- You must sign and submit competition rules and acknowledgement on second page.
- Your design will be judged the same morning as check in; however, your design will be on display for 2 days. Please keep in mind the Horticulture Building is NOT air conditioned; temperatures generally get very hot.

RULES FOR THE COMPETITION ON WEDNESDAY,
SEPTEMBER 1, 2010
- There is a $25 per person entrance fee for the design competition. The fee is per person. Payment and the registration form must be postmarked on or before August 25th, 2010 or paid for by credit card at http://mnsfa.org/member-services/fees-payment by August 26th. INCLUDES YOUR STATE FAIR ADMISSION AND PARKING! (These items will be mailed to you—prior to competition) Pease Note: Any entry made after August 25th, will pay the original entrance fee of $35.00 per person.
- The wholesale cost must not exceed $60.00 (at least 50% being fresh product). Design must convey theme: “Animal Instincts.” The required space is 30” L x 30” W—no height restriction. There will be 3 designs on each table. All entries must conform to any requirements by category such as size, materials used, costs or props. Props included that do not touch the arrangement are not to be included in the total price of the arrangement—MNSFA will assume no responsibility for lost, broken or missing props.
- Containers, accessories/props must not dominate the floral arrangement and must be available on the wholesale-retail market. The design must be confined to the size requirements. Antique and collectables are not allowed. Props will NOT be judged.
- Electrical items such as lights, fountains, etc. are not allowed. Electrical outlets are not available.
- Entries will be limited to one design per person. A number will be assigned to you at registration.
- ONLY after the judging is complete and notification is given, participants will be allowed to post the Name of Shop/Affiliation. Business Cards, brochures and coupons may be left in front of entry at this time. No drawings or verbal promotion will be allowed.
- Each entry must have TWO (2) 3×5 cards. The first must be attached to design and must list wholesale costs of ALL materials used in the arrangement. Do not include shop or designer name on this card. MNSFA will not provide card/tools to attach card. The second card must list all products used with absolutely no prices listed on the card, as this will be attached to design post judging for the courtesy of the general public to view.
- Designs can be brought to the Horticulture Building by vehicle from 6am to 9am. After 9am designs must be walked to the building through the fair grounds—we encourage you to arrive prior to 9am. Judging will take place at 9:30AM; results will be posted at PM.
- When you arrive at the Horticulture Building, your design must be finished! You may fine-tune design in display area. You will check in with the MNSFA staff at registration table. He/She will take your name and assign you a number. You will receive a packet of information with your number. Take your design to the designated number, place it/fine-tune it/and place your PRICED 3×5 ingredient card in an obvious location. Please clean up your area.
- There will be 5 qualified judges. The winners will be determined by discarding the high and low scores of each competitor and taking an average of the remaining scores. There will be one additional cost/product judge (an individual from a local wholesaler) to verify prices. Score results will be mailed to you after the event.
- The top 6 designs will be rewarded a purple ribbon and qualifies you for the final round at the MNSFA Convention on October 10th, 2010. YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE SECOND ROUND OF COMPEITITON TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE GRAND PRIZE. YOU MUST BE PRESENT FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE AWARDS CEREMONY ON THE OCTOBER 10TH OR FORFEIT TO THE NEXT HIGHEST SCORE.
- Your design must stay on display through Thursday, September 2nd. The arrangement or props can be picked up between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday, September 2rd. Any arrangements or props left at 10pm will become the property of MNSFA and could be destroyed.
